The People of Spectrum Generations
July, 2008Patricia - Volunteer MOW's Assessor |
Patricia Oh came to Spectrum Generations two years ago, eager to become involved with helping area seniors acquire the services and support they need to live dignified lives and to stay in their homes as long as possible. She is the mother of 6 and currently is working on her MSW at the University of Southern Maine, as well as working part time for Midcoast Maine Community Action.
Patricia quickly became our volunteer assessor for the Meals on Wheels program; this means that she visits every single Meals on Wheels consumer to assess their needs and help ease them into the program and she visits or calls again every six months thereafter. Given that we serve roughly 120 consumers at any one time, this requires a significant investment of time and effort, and Patricia regards it as an honor and a privilege.
In addition, Spectrum Generations launched AARP’s Money Management Program in early 2007 and Patricia accepted a second volunteer role as a member of the Money Management Program Advisory Council. She provides the perspective of program volunteers and the reality of life for low and moderate income seniors.
Recently, Patricia was one of an elite group of volunteers to receive the 2008 Governor’s Service Award presented by Governor John Baldacci at the State House. We’re fortunate to have volunteers of this caliber and this level of commitment. Thank you, Patricia!
